Club News: 10th of January 2016

Our AGM for 2016 took place in the Hillary Rooms, Banada on Saturday last, the 9th of January, with record numbers in attendance. 

Chairman, Brendan Leonard, opened the meeting followed by Secretary, Amanada Walsh giving her report, followed by an in depth report from Treasurer, David McVeigh. 

Congratulations to Brendan Murtagh who was elected as a joint patron of the club.
The club wish Sean Leonard, a joint patron of the club, as speedy recovery as he is in hospital at the moment.
Chairman, Brendan Leonard, also congratulated our newest All Star of the club, Pat Carty. Pat recently received an All Star for Wheelchair Hurling. The club wish to congratulate Pat on this well deserved accolade. 

David McVeigh stepped down as Treasurer of the club, as did his assistant, Austin Walsh. We thank them both for their years of dedication, commitment and hard work in their respective roles. Brendan Walsh (Rhue) was elected as the new Treasurer of the club and will be assisted by Judith Bailey for the year ahead.  

Senior Player, John Marren, was elected as the new Player Welfare Officer, taking over from the role of Therese Walsh.

Congratulations to Eamonn O'Hara and Gerry McGowan who were both ratified as joint Senior managers on a 2 year term. We wish them every success in their new role in the club. The club wish to thank Ray Dempsey for all his hard work with the senior outfit last year and wish him well in the future. 

The new minor management team will be made up of David Bailey, Paddy Henry, Stephen Henry and Adrian McIntyre, the new U-16 management team will be made up of Niall Surlis, Enda Kelly and Jimmy Walsh, while Richard Kennedy, Matt Marren and Austin Walsh will take over the reins at U-12 level. Junior, U-14 and U-8/U-10 management will remain the same for 2016. We wish all management the very best for the year ahead. 

The club are delighted to announce that Celtic Sheet Metal, New York, will continue as the clubs main sponsor for the next three years. Thanks to the Cunney brothers, New York for their constant support of the club. 

The final draw of 2015s' Lotto Syndicate took at the AGM with 31 €100 prizes handed out. Our €5 National Lottery Syndicate Club Tickets are available for purchase at present. The €5 enters you into all National Lottery games as well as Euromillions. There are 4 Quarterly draws with prizes from €1,000.  We also have a end of year draw where all the winnings of the year are shared. The ticket can be purchase with a one off payment (€260) or through direct debit on a weekly (€5) or monthly payment. If you are interested in supporting the club in this way, pleas contact us at or any club committee member. A sincere thank you to all our supporters who are currently part of our lottery syndicate and who continue to support our club.

A Fundraising Committee has been set up within the club and the first meeting takes place this Monday, the 11th of January at 8.30pm, upstairs in the clubhouse. Anyone wishing to join the committee, please contact club treasurer, Brendan Walsh. 

Registration night for the U-8 and U-10 girls and boys of the club, takes place on Thursday the 14th of January at 7pm in Banada Hall. All newcomers welcome. 

The Hurling and Ladies AGM will take place during the weekend of the 22nd of January. Date and time to be confirmed in the coming week. 

The club would like to wish the best of luck to the St. Attracta's Community School Senior Boys Football team as they take on Summerhill College in the Connacht Schools Senior 'A' League Final this Saturday the 16th of January in Markievicz Park. The club urge our loyal supporters to get out and support the boys as the club is well represented on this team as they look to make history. 

Bingo continues every Tuesday night in Banada Abbey Hall. Snowball €3,200 on 45 calls or less, Jackpot €1990 on 48 calls or less, Lotto €320 euro. Minimum 1,800 euro paid out each night. Please support our ongoing fundraiser of the club.
