posted 27 Mar 2017, 11:31 by Tourlestrane GAA PRO

Our u14 boys got their league campaign off to a flying start with a victory over neighbours Tubbercurry/Cloonacool in a hard fought battle which saw 14 goals.

Tourlestrane started the game stronger, with points from Jessie Surlis, Danny Cawley and a goal from Jack Lundy. Tubber shortened the gap with 1-1 from Dadrwn Debank. Aidan Marren then scored a goal, Tubber again responding with 1-1, the point from Ben Henry and a Joshua Flynn goal, making the score 2-2 each. Tourlestrane went ahead again with another Jack Lundy point and a goal from Danny Cawley, but 1-1 in quick succession from Ben Henry kept the game level. Lundy added a point to his tally, so too did Debank and Flynn, before a Cormac Dolan goal on the stroke of half time gave Tourlestrane the lead, 4-4 to 3-5 at the break.

With the wind in their favour, Tourlestrane extended their lead with a point from midfielder Kevin Brennan, before the goals started pouring in. Tubber goals from Thomas Killoran and a half volley from Oisin Hunt were equalled by a goal each for Tourlestrane's Tom Bailey and Jack Lundy. Tourlestrane were a goal ahead at this stage, to which Tubber responded with 1-3 unanswered. Points from Debank, Flynn, and James King and a second goal for Thomas Killoran gave Tubbercurry a 3 point lead. With little time remaining, Tourlestrane needed to turn the game around. Saves from goalkeeper Zac Nealon along with some excellent defending kept the game close. Tourlestrane proceeded to score 1-4 in the last few mintues ( 1-2 from Tom Bailey and 2 points from Jack Lundy). A last-gasp Tubbercurry goal proved to be too little, too late. After a brilliant afternoon of football, the game ended 7-11 to 7-8 in favour of Tourlestrane, who will face Coolera/ Strandhill in the next round on the 7th of April.
